Question Number Four

A gentleman in Texas contacted us to ask several questions related to potentially starting a part-time roof cleaning business. His fourth question was: “What kind of a warranty can the applier provide to the home owner?”

And the Answer Is…

In general, after a roof has been cleaned, the colonies of algae that were causing the discoloration have to float in again on the air currents, land on the newly clean roof, and start to grow once again for stains to ultimately reappear. This process can start quite quickly, especially if neighboring home roofs have not been cleaned at the same time.

However, it takes somewhere between 16 and 18 months for the algae colonies to become large enough to be visible to the naked eye from the ground level. Therefore, if the homeowner is not interested in a yearly maintenance plan, a professional roof cleaner should be able to warrant the results of the initial cleaning for about one calendar year.

Clean Roof Forever

If the homeowner never wants to have to have the roof cleaned again, then it is a best practice to offer a yearly preventative maintenance program. The yearly application of Roof Armor, powered by MoldStat Plus, will prevent roof algae from ever re-growing to visible size, thus eliminating the appearance of roof stains. This program of cleaning followed by yearly preventative maintenance is what we call Clean Roof Forever. If the Clean Roof Forever program is offered and followed, a roof cleaning professional can warrant the roof cleaning results for the lifetime of the roof, as long as the preventative maintenance program is maintained by the homeowner.

As a helpful business tip, we don’t recommend applying the preventative treatment on the anniversary of the initial roof cleaning. Instead, we recommend that maintenance applications be scheduled for the autumn which will likely be a slow time for cleaning roofs for new clients, and is therefore an excellent time to schedule with existing clients.
